For his first design on the new lidded box (SH6) Terry chose
the subject of Robins. This is a very popular subject with
collectors, but surprisingly it is the first time Terry has
painted it on either copper or china.
This
new box has been designed by Steve and Terry and is made exclusively
for them. It has a very attractive curved side which makes
it different from the usual circular box. The top and bottom
edges of the box have been especially designed to take gold
bands, which add sparkle and richness that create a feeling
of quality about the piece.
The
Robin is a bird of character and charm that has adapted to
our way of life. It is essentially a bird of open woodland,
following other animals as they disturb the ground and dislodge
insects. However, as we have created hedgerows, churchyards,
parks and gardens, it has willingly followed and is often
found waiting and watching around our feet for a fresh tasty
morsel to appear. For centuries, the Robin has been the friend
of woodsmen and gardeners, tamer than any other species, even
willing to enter houses or take food from the hand.
Terry
has created a gorgeous design capturing that friendliness
and alertness in the stances of his Robins. He excels with
snow (look at that chain link fence!) but, cleverly, his winter
sky gives a warmth to the piece!.
