For his first design on the Prestige lidded jar (SH4) Terry
turned to the popular subject of garden birds and in particular
three members of the titmouse family. He wanted to paint something
with an autumn feel to it where the birds could be set against
berries and other fruit. This became not only a feast of fruits
for the birds but a veritable feast of images ... hence "Autumn
Feast" for the title of the piece.
The
birds featured are the Coal Tit, Blue Tit and Great Tit, with
a magnificent total of nine birds featured over the surfaces
of the vase. Each is portrayed in incredible detail, with
those on the INSIDE (Great tit and two Blue Tits) just as
detailed as those on the outside. Rose hips, blackberries
and hawthorn berries integrate into the design and apples
and pears look quite scrumptious.
If
that wasn't enough Terry has added the final touch of three
insects painted in minute detail - a gorgeous white-tailed
bumble bee, a butterfly and a wasp feasting on a windfall
apple!
There
is so much to attract one's attention it is impossible to
grow tired of looking at this piece.
This
is a truly remarkable piece of painting, which takes Terry's
work to an entirely new level. His work for Moorcroft Enamels
pales into insignificance in comaprison to this piece and
many of them cost more!
